SAS soldiers in debt after fighting Taliban

ELITE SAS soldiers who fought Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan have been hit with a $30,000 pay debt, forcing their families below the poverty line.

Some married diggers with children are being forced to live on $250 a fortnight as they struggle to repay tax-free allowances, with after-tax income docked from their pay without consultation, The Australian reports.

I can’t possibly express just how furious this makes me.   These guys have risked life and limb to defend freedom and they end up getting treated like crap by their own country!    This is why I hate bureaucracy in all it’s forms – heartless and soulless as it is.   The rules and guidelines must be followed at all costs, with no thought of consequences for those it affects.  Bah, I hope these sons of bitches get dumped on by the south end of a north bound camel.   There is absolutely no excuse for treating them like this – none.

It appears there will be an inquiry into this mess, but it should never have happened in the first place.   Why is it that those that give service for their country are often the ones who get mistreated the most.

  1. Bureaucrats are often the scum of the Earth. That’s for sure. There’s a reason that Family Guy joked that DMVs (Department of Motor Vehicles) are black Americans’ revenge for slavery…

It’s a wonder that people stay in the military. They’re being forced to fight wars for people who largely can’t stand them, and they get ripped away from home for long periods of time (3-4 deployments for some troops in the US military in Iraq) because a namby pamby politician won’t let them take the kid gloves off and fight it like it’s a real war.
